Over the years, we at AZ Pawn & Guns have collected quite a few unique items. But one of the things that is particularly unique to our pawn shop in Norwich, CT is our Gift of Mobility Motorized Wheelchair Giveaway.
Since we began this program years ago, we have donated hundreds of motorized wheelchairs and scooters to people in the community who need them the most. We are extremely passionate about this Gift of Mobility program, because it is the best way we have been able to give back to a community that has embraced us over the years.
Today, we are the only motorized wheelchair donation center in New England. We are only able to run this program with the help of generous donors, so if you wish to donate funding for wheelchair batteries or actual chairs, please feel free to contact us.
We are also happy to take donations of actual wheelchairs. Our team refurbishes these chairs before giving them away to needy community members.
We strongly believe we can make this year’s giveaway our biggest yet! Here are just a few reasons why this drive is so important:
- Greater mobility: Elderly people, people with disabilities or people who have suffered some sort of injury can fall into depression caused by a lack of mobility. It is always incredible to see people’s faces light up when they get on their motorized wheelchair or scooter for the first time. Mobility is a gift that so many of us take for granted, so it’s nice to be able to give this gift to those in need.
- Better comfort: A lot of standard wheelchairs do not provide the same level of comfort that motorized wheelchairs do. There are many more options for seating on power wheelchairs. For example, people who wish to have options providing for better trunk stability and control can add seat and back cushions in certain positions. There are also electric reclining and tilting features, which are great for people who otherwise would have difficulty repositioning themselves in their wheelchair. These features also provide relief from pressure on the body that can come from sitting too long.
- Better turning radius: Power wheelchairs are able to turn on a dime, with a smaller turning radius than standard wheelchairs largely due to the greater machine control. Certain options with center wheel drives and front wheel drives also help improve turning radii in tight spaces.
- Variety of travel areas: People who have motorized wheelchairs are able to travel over a larger variety of terrains compared to standard wheelchairs, thanks to the larger amount of tire types and wheel positions. This means travel to rougher surfaces now becomes a possibility where it might previously not have been.
We hope you will consider participating in this worthwhile cause this year. For more information about our Gift of Mobility Motorized Wheelchair Giveaway and how you can help, contact our pawn shop in Norwich, CT today and we will be happy to answer any questions you have for us.
